The thrill of the hunt

I had the best day yesterday!  My Mom had cut out an article from the newspaper over a year ago.  It was an article about the town of Allen Michigan being the antique capital of Michigan.  It's no secret that Mom and I love to go antiquing!  Allen is about 100 miles from us but we decided to make a day trip and head on over there.  This town was amazing!  They have about 8 antique malls with hundreds and hundreds of dealers.  There is no way you can see it all in one day.  We spent the majority of the day in only 2 malls.  We didn't see nearly all of it.

The top photo shows the treasures that I found.  Many of you know that I collect Royal Copley bird pottery.   I rarely find any pieces in antiques malls that are in my price range.  I suspect this is because dealers know the value of them.  Most pieces I buy on Ebay.  But much to my surprise I actually found 8 pieces that I was thrilled with.  See the two large pheasants on the top shelf?  I got them for $20 for the pair and they are valued at $60.  And see the red bird with the planter on the bottom left?  I found him for $20 and he's valued at $80!  The rest of the pieces I picked up for anywhere from $4 to $12 each and they range in value from $20 to $45.
There is just something about the thrill of the hunt that makes this so fun.  Can't wait to go back to Allen Michigan again!

Great fun! I love, love finding deals like that but there's not really anywhere around here that haven't jacked the prices up.

Congrats on your finds!

Congratulations on the good buys.

I always love when I find something at the antique store that I love AND it's in my price range.

I collect watches and first generation Fiestaware. I also look for old farmhouse kitchenware, but in Florida that is hard to find. Most of the antique stores here specialize in Victorian-type antiques.
