Pileated Woodpecker

Visit Pigeon to view a great photo of a Pileated Woodpecker.  She's posted about him last week when she spotted him in the woods.  Now she has successfully attracted him to her yard with suet.  I've told her how envious I am.  This is the only photo of a Pileated that I have ever gotten.  It was taken about a year ago in Grayling, Michigan.  I'm still hoping that someday I'll see one close to home.  Here birdy birdy.....

Nice shot. He's a big one! I have a pair that have lived in my yard for years. I think it's because I have so many trees on my property. They seem to like all the locust trees.

Looks like a great photo to me! I had a couple hanging around last winter and they even came to the feeder a couple of times! Haven't seen any yet this year and I would love to even see them way out in the yard somewhere.

Pileateds are the best! Too bad they don't come into town very often!

I would be very happy to see one this close. I have only seen them high in the trees, never near the ground. Great picture.

Regarding your comment on my blog --- yep, those are orchids, 37 of them.

I'm not with the orchid society, but I do enjoy growing the ones I have.
