Signs of Winter

I've been anxiously awaiting the return of my Junco feathered friends.  I was thrilled to see my first one today.  He (or she) was all alone but I am sure I'll have my usual winter flock soon.  I love Junco's!  They are such adorable innocent birds, always hanging out on the ground under the feeders scratching around like chickens.  I love their delicate pink bills and white bellies.
I picked up a few of these recently.  Supposedly they are bird roosting houses.  Little birds like Chickadees and Titmice like them in the winter for shelter at night.  This is the first year I've tried them... I'll let you know if I see any birds using them.

Oh how I've missed the junco's! Glad to see they are coming back. I like those little roosting baskets, where did you find them? I have a red-bellied that takes over one of my bluebird boxes in the winter. I just remove the predator guard and let them roost.

I picked them up at our local "Family Farm and Home" store. I've seen them on the bird sites like "Duncraft" too.

Very cute. I hope you get a resident this year.

Kind of reminds me of the bird house I bought. I still don't have any takers. Hope you have more luck!

Glad to see your juncos; not so glad to see the W----- word invoked this early! (It was something like 74 out today!)

I've been looking and looking for my juncos - hopefully they'll arrive soon! I love your little pocket roosters - I might have to get some!

Yes, winter is on it's way. We should be stocking up on birdseed soon and I'm sure I will be assisting the in laws in making sure the birds are fed at their house.

Have a super day!

I have a question for you because I need your expert advice. I just bought a wooden bird house. It has a hole to fit little birds like finches and chickades. I hung it up on my front porch, and I want to face it in towards the picture window, so I can see all the action. Will this work, or do I have to face it away from the house so the birds will use it?
Also, I have never heard on Juncos before. That's a new bird for me.
