I am listening

God was talking to me Sunday. He talks to me everyday but some days I hear him more than others. And that is my own fault. I am guilty of not always taking the time to listen.
I woke up to my usual routine. Around 6:00 I went out to "do" the birds. Doing the birds consists of feeding them, putting out fresh water, etc. It's one of my favorite parts of the day.... listening to and watching the birds start their day.
And if I have time I grab the most comfortable lawn chair I can find along with my camera and my binoculars and kick back to enjoy the sights. It was a good "birding" morning. I saw two new species that I had never seen before. A catbird and a common flicker.
Soon it was time to head to church. I still had my birds on my mind.
The scripture reading Sunday was Matthew 6:24-34 I always read the scripture text before we get to that part in the service so I can be thinking about it and prepare myself.
6:25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes?
6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they are?
6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 6:28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
6:29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
6:30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 6:31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you are need them.
6:33-34 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
This is how I feel when I am out with my birds. God is talking to me and I am listening....

Amen.

Yesterday, weeding the lilac area, I had many hours to contemplate and pray. I thought about the soldiers and prayed for their safety. Being Catholic, I often revert to my "Hail Marys" You have time to have a one on one with God. Something about nature and all He has provided us makes it easy.

Thank you for that post. I am a new Christian, and still don't know a lot about the Scriptures, but I am inspired by your post to start with that one. I love your photos, I too have several feeders in my yard, and love to watch the birds. I am hoping one day to entice the chickadees to land on my hand like that one in your picture...that would be amazing!

Thanks again...
